Swimming in children

Swimming in children is the endurance sport par excellence and is very beneficial for the cardiovascular and respiratory systems as it is a continuous aerobic exercise. It can be practiced by people of any age, since when doing it there is little impact on the different parts of our body when floating in the water. The stress on the joints and bones is greatly reduced due to the different gravity to which our body is exposed in the water. But not only that, it is very enriching for the little ones because it even develops self-esteem, by improving self-confidence.

Benefits of swimming in children and babies :

Among the many benefits for which children have to practice this sport we can find the following:

Improves coordination, flexibility and muscular agility.

It helps in the development of physical, mental and neurological attitudes since in the water the muscles and the nervous system relax more easily.

Development of independence and self-confidence.

Reduces the concentration of cholesterol and glucose in the blood from an early age. Thus the circulatory system remains healthy.

Improves and favors the postural alignment of the body.

Water, at a comfortable temperature, combined with gentle exercises relaxes babies and this helps them to eat and rest better later.

The adaptation of swimming to the needs of each person is being carried out in many pools in the form of different activities. There are no longer only classes to learn to swim, which is what has always existed, but now you can find a very wide variety of all kinds of activities led by professional swimming experts.

In our Brains Nursery School in Madrid we attach great importance to this activity for all the benefits it has for the little ones and for this reason it is incorporated into our offer of activities within school hours from 1 to 6 years old (in the school located in la Moraleja) and as an extracurricular activity. The children’s swimming school where the classes are taught is called: Baby Ocean , located in the Moraleja nursery school. Children between 4 months and 6 years old can enjoy different activities adapted to their ages. In addition, expectant mothers also have water activity classes for pregnant women, where they can take care of themselves and the baby they carry inside.

Aimed at babies (from 4 months) in order for them to learn to control their breathing , to float in water and to increase psychomotor stimulation. In this type of activity, the parents will be present during the classes for the greatest relaxation of the baby. With these classes we want to ensure that babies not only relax, but also survive a fall into the water by accident.

early childhood

From the age of 18 months, the children go to work without their parents in the water, carrying out the activities by themselves. Classes will always be held in small groups. What is intended to achieve is that they are autonomous in the water without the need for any type of auxiliary material. In this type of activity, games are used to motivate children, since it is what the little ones like to do the most.

Pre-initiation 3 years

Activities aimed at those who can swim and those who can’t, through games to completely dominate the aquatic environment. You want to get them to control their breathing, jumps, turns, in addition to working on propulsion.

Initiation to swimming from 4 to 6 years

When the students reach the age of 4 and are independent in the water, they are taught the different styles of swimming through games . In the event that the child is not autonomous, first you have to make it so.

Swimming for children with Down syndrome

Children with Down syndrome will vary widely in their development at the different stages a child goes through. For this reason, through swimming we stimulate and favor the acquisition of the necessary skills to have a positive impact on development.

The stimulation is done in a playful way to promote relationships with other children and adults and also achieve the goal of these classes, which is to be autonomous in the water.

Swimming for premature children

It is increasingly common for births to occur prematurely and, as babies have not yet finished developing in the womb, they are much more fragile and this can have sequelae in their later development. One way to prevent possible consequences is through stimulation sessions, since the aquatic environment is the most conducive to the mobility of babies.

Aquatic activity for pregnant women

Swimming for pregnant women is a very beneficial activity that greatly contributes to your physical well-being . In the classes, exercises are developed through which the levels of resistance, strength and flexibility are improved. Very important aspects of pregnancy are always taken into account, such as the muscles involved in the state of pregnancy, breathing control, relaxation, control of postures and muscle toning.
